Is recycling working? OneSTL partners produced the Stick with the 6 recycling campaign to inform people that after they reduce and reuse as much as possible, recycling works if they put the correct items in the blue bin. At the January Sustainability Lab, Brent Batliner, General Manager at the Republic Services Materials Recovery Facility in Hazelwood, will shed light on where our recycling goes and how the materials are used. He will also be available to answer specific questions about what is recyclable. Emily Whitacre from Trex will discuss what happens to plastic bags and wrap recycled at grocery store drop-off locations. Remember, when it comes to the "3 R's," "reduce" and "reuse" come before "recycle." Try to avoid single-use items in the first place and then Recycle Responsibly.
This Lab will be offered in-person and on Zoom. However, in-person seating at the Lab is limited. We encourage you to come to T-REX if you are interested in networking, otherwise feel free to join on Zoom. The number of attendees on Zoom will be limited to the first 100 attendees who join. The Lab will be recorded and made available here for any who are unable to join.
(As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we ask that all attendees take appropriate precautions such as getting vaccinated, maintaining social distance, wearing a mask when in proximity to more than three people, and washing your hands or using hand sanitizer frequently.)
