The Bridge Outreach

In a Nutshell

The Bridge Outreach connects those experiencing homelessness with the support they need to secure stable housing. And we provide day shelter and emergency services to our guests on their path to independence. Our primary goal is to place our guests in permanent, stable housing as quickly as possible.

To help us meet our goals we have opportunities for volunteers, we accept monetary donations, and we accept donations of food and other items.

Project Information

The Bridge Outreach (formerly Centenary CARES) started in 2005.

Leaders of the Centenary United Methodist Church partnered with the City of St. Louis to fight homelessness in our community. We tapped the best advocates and leaders in our community to help us form a purposeful, well-managed organization. By tackling the challenge together, we formed the first partnership of its kind in St. Louis.

Our first priority was providing shelter from the elements and meals to address urgent nutrition needs. As our impact grew, we hired staff, expanded services and provided additional meal offerings. By 2007, we had established the city’s only day shelter. In 2009, we changed our name to The Bridge Outreach and became a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

Help with meal preparation and service. Teach computer skills. Monitor usage of shower facilities. Provide front desk support. Coach guests on resume writing. Conduct practice interviews. Raise awareness of the issues surrounding homelessness. Advocate for The Bridge and our guests within the community. Whether you want to volunteer by yourself, with a friend, or with a large group, there are lots of opportunities to get involved.

Just a $100 contribution will help us provide a meal to over 30 people. And no matter the amount, sustaining donors who make recurring monthly contributions help us remain consistent in our impact throughout the year. We also accept donations of food and personal hygiene products for distribution to our guests. If you have a special skill or expertise, like knitting or professional skills, you can donate handmade goods or professional services. Or, perhaps you'd like to host a donation drive in your local community.

Visit our Get Involved page below for information on how to volunteer and donate.
